The cost of relocating a boiler.
The cost of moving a boiler can vary depending on the type of boiler you’re having installed. Whether you’re getting a completely new boiler and disposing of your old one, or if you’re simply moving your current model to a different location in your home.
For new boiler installations You can usually expect a cost of around £250 to £650 extra to the new boiler installation for boiler relocation which usually includes all the parts and labour needed to complete the job. If you’re only looking to relocate your boiler a short distance, such as within the same room or along the same wall, then you’ll be looking more towards the £250 mark. However, if your relocation is on a completely different floors, or requires more pipework, then you can expect to pay a higher amount. For example, the cost of moving a boiler from upstairs to downstairs will be a bigger job - therefore more expensive move.
If you are not having a new boiler and purely wish to move an old boiler then you can expect costs to be ranging from £750 - £1350.
why the difference from relocating a new boiler?
simply put, as a separate job, to move a boiler involves draining the system, removing old pipework, flue, boiler and electrics and relocating along with new pipework and materials. refilling of the system and testing.
When having a new boiler installation, some of the above work is already being done as part of your new boiler install, therefore relocating a new boiler is much less than moving an old boiler.
In many cases it makes more sense to relocate a new boiler as opposed to an older boiler.
Extra components may need to be purchased in addition to the relocation work:
Extension pipes
Controls/thermostat
Pipework
Flue
Additional fittings and fixtures

Moving boiler regulations.
Regulations require boilers to be installed in a safe, secure and convenient location. Think about the following things before you make your mind up:
Is it practical?
Moving your boiler is a big decision and you need to weigh up the pros and cons of the location. You need to be entirely happy with its position and be able to work around it. Will you be able to have easy access to it should you need to check on it or alter its pressure? If your boiler ever needs working on, will an engineer be able to get to the right compartments with ease?
Can it easily be installed?
You should bear in mind that pipes may need to be fed through a wall or under flooring. Is this something that can be easily done? Can you afford this extra labour and fixing the mess that it will cause?
Where should it be positioned?
If you have a loft space, then this can be a good place to install your boiler in some cases. However, there can be a number of reasons why a loft space isn’t suitable in your property. If you want your boiler to be moved and installed in a different room of your home, there are some regulations you need to follow:
The minimum flue clearance distance should be at least 300mm metres away from a window or door.
Access to a waste pipe is must. A bathroom or utility room is a great choice, but it’s worth keeping in mind that the further away your boiler is from a waste pipe, the more expensive it may be due to the amount of pipework needed.
Moving a boiler is a big deal - make the right decision.
Your boiler should be in a convenient location. If you’re constantly finding it’s in the way, or you find it difficult to reach, then you need to relocate. It’s important that you follow the right regulations and use the expertise of a Gas Safe Registered engineer to do this for you. This will ensure optimum safety and ease of use.
can I relocate my old boiler without the cost of a new boiler?
the simply answer is YES you can, however there are some things to consider here
- how old is the boiler that you want to relocate?
- you understand the risk of disturbing an older boiler, its flue pipe and components which have not been touched for many years, (sometimes this opens up a can of worms and the old boiler and parts can leak when disturbed)
- if your old boiler has any issues due to its relocation can we still get the correct parts to repair it?
- will you old boiler last long enough to feel the benefit of relocating it? the last thing you want to do is move a 10 year old + boiler then 1 year later have to buy a new boiler anyway, its counter productive. sometimes its much better and more cost effective to get a new boiler and relocate at the same time.
